What can I say, I love painting in watercolour and in particular the wild landscapes of North West Scotland!

Born in 1956 in Surrey, I studied at the West Surrey College of Art and Design in Farnham between 1972 - 1977 with two years spent in foundation and three specialising in graphic design.

My love affair with the medium of watercolour began over 25 years ago when I met the English watercolourist James Fletcher Watson; aided by his generous encouragement my family and I took a leap of faith and re-located from Surrey, England, to the Isle of Skye, North West Scotland in 1996 with the aim to develop my art and paint professionally.

Intentionally purist in the handling of the medium, my desire has always been to try and capture the ever-changing moods of this very special island and surrounding area. I’m particularly drawn to how the distinctive light of the West investigates its landscape, revealing hidden contours and crags, invisible when the light flattens on a misty day. This, coupled with the ever-present squally downpours acting like giant curtains concealing ridge and ravine, creates a landscape which speaks with a truly distinctive and dynamic voice.

My work is inspired by a variety of artists not all of whom are confined to watercolour. The Group of Seven whose unique mark making and linear description of landfall constantly challenge me, Simon Rivett’s block patterning of light and form and Bob Rudd’s colourist interpretation, equally aid the direction of my work and my development as a watercolourist.
